Do's and Don'ts of College Parking

If you've ever been to a college campus you can clearly see that most universities have a parking problem.  At UCO there are almost 20,000 students who attend the university and only about 6,500 parking spaces including the teachers parking.  If you attend a university that has parking problems there are some do's and don'ts that you need to know so you don't rip out all your hair before you graduate.

DO'S

DO Buy a parking pass!

Now I know I just said theres only a limited amount of parking spots, but I'll go on to tell you how to get that parking spot.
DO carpool! Find a friend that has classes around the same time as you and carpool together.  Not only does this save parking spaces and you time, but it also saves the environment.
DO learn what times the classes right before yours get out.  This will save you time and stress.  If you learn that they get out 10 minutes before your class starts show up at the time and you can usually get lucky and get an up front parking spot.  Believe me this works, I do it every day.

DON'T

DON'T not get a parking sticker and then park in student parking.  YOU WILL GET A TICKET.  Those people are like vouchers and can sniff out any car without a parking pass.

DON'T even try to park in teachers parking.  This is one of the most frustrating things in my eyes because the teachers parking lot is never full!  And yet if we park in there parking lot we will for sure get a ticket, but if they take up one of ours its no big deal.
DON'T get mad or aggressive if someone steals the spot you want.  There are some crazy college drivers out there who are willing to make you mad just for a parking spot. You just have to breath and move on to the next hopeful parking space available.
DON'T spend 20 minters looking for this magical parking spot.... it's not going to happen.  After a certain lucky time frame there will be nothing.  The coming ratio to leaving ratio just isn't going to happen and no matter what, you'll be stuck in the very last row, so you might as well just save you're time.

I hope some of these Do's and Don'ts will help you our during your college career!

XOXO,
Katie
